This area that I speak of is called "The As is Section"
At first glance you may overlook the potential. It can look like a big mess, like a maze of stained furniture and scratched dressers, it can look like broken, unsellable junk! But start diggin', my friends 'cause we all know how the saying goes, "One man's junk..." you finish the rest.
In our last house, the IKEA in Orange County supplied all the window coverings in my house for an average of $5 a window, thanks to the as-is section!
Now in our AZ home, the Tempe IKEA has given me an endless supply of vinyl projects with the help of their piles and stacks of wood! Let me show you...
These brand new dresser drawer faces were on sale for 99 cents each!
Painted an awesome white and finished with routed edges... you can't beat the price or the time it would save you to do it yourself!
Here is the back. You can add hardware, or a ribbon to hang it on a wall or not do anything at all! The tracks and holes on the back fit a small nail in it just fine!
So with the aide of my handy vinyl cutter and literally scraps of vinyl from a big project I did earlier, I made these:
I bought several pieces of wood, so my plan is to make a bunch of cute sayings and sell them at the boutique this winter. The middle "Family Est. Board" is going to my sister and I may just make these for some Christmas gifts... who knows?!
Anyway- visit your local IKEA store and tell Mr. As Is Steph said Hi.
Love this idea and they turned out so cute. Creative, simple and inexpensive. What could be better?

ReplyDeleteSuh-weet!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have a friend in our ward who feeds our wood addiction with cabinet doors. They are great for vinyl projects but I love the idea of the IKEA doors. Already painted and ready to go. It doesn't get much easier. Also, what type of vinyl machine do you have and where did you get it???
ReplyDeletenow I need to get myself to Ikea! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat I loved most about this post though is the quote on the top board... "having faith in God is having faith in His timing" or something like that... I'll have to go back and look at it- but it is what I needed to hear today. thanks! :)
Im so jealous! There is no IKEA near us :( Everyone keeps talking about how great it is. You got an amazing deal on the dresser fronts, no wonder you like that section so much!

I am looking for a vinyl cutter. . .would you mind sharing what brand you use? Do you have the Cricut or do you use something more "professional" not crafty. . .i am off to check out more of your posts. . better than a magazine. thanks- Su
ReplyDelete"Tal Como Son" is Spanish, not Swedish. ;) Thanks for the great tip, I'll be sure to look there next time I'm in Ikea!
