After I posted my Craft Area Makeover, I had email after email asking me to show how I hung my ribbon on the cork board. This is so easy, you won't believe it! It was one of those temporary ideas that worked out surprisingly well so I decided I didn't need to change after all!
Here is what I did.
I put all my ribbon onto dowels. On each side of the dowel I got a piece of ribbon and folded it over, making a loop just big enough for the dowel to fit through. Then I glued the ribbon with hot glue- yep, hot glue- to hold it.
Again, I made this to be temporary as I never thought this would last or that the hot glue would hold the ribbon together once it had to hold the weight of the ribbon, but the original hanging dowel I made nearly 2 years ago is still holding strong!!! You could also just make a giant loop and not glue anything too if you are still worried about it. Maybe I used some great ribbon or something that melted together with the glue? I don't know, take it for what its worth, I am just glad its working!!!
Then I just tacked up each side with 2 thumb tacks!
Can't get easier than that, right?
And I have A LOT of ribbon hanging, as you can see, so this board is holding a lot of weight and doing just fine!
Martha Stewart has some ideas if you want to copy her instead:
Use a utility knife to make slits or use grommets. For both versions, make a 1/4-inch hole on box ends. Place ribbon spools inside, then slide a 1/4-inch dowel into one end, through the spools, and out the other. A thumbtack on each dowel end keeps it from shimmying into the box.
I also found this idea on Country Living:

Or keep it SUPER simple and use a paper towel holder! Also from Martha Stewart!
I searched some of my favorite creative blogs for more ideas, and this is what I came up with:
Use an old dresser drawer like Becca, from Blue Cricket Design
Susan, from Crafterhours has a brilliant idea for some scrappy pieces not on spools:
Little Birdie Secrets has a couple great ideas too!
Use a man's trouser hanger...
or be like Martha and try the box idea! Love these!
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing!!
