When I saw this umbrella stand in the Ballard Designs catalog, I just had to have it...
... but at $89, there was no way I was going to spend that much on one item!
So, I purchased a 24" galvanized french flower bucket from THIS website.
(I couldn't find one that big anywhere in real life.)
(I couldn't find one that big anywhere in real life.)
All I did was spray paint the bucket a sunny yellow (Rustoleum's American Accents Summer Squash).
Then I found these round sponges in the stenciling aisle at my JoAnn Fabric Store.
I used Rustoleum in Blossom White for the quatrefoil pattern. To get the quatrefoil pattern using sponges, you want to make like two number 8s that cross each other, like this:
And in the end you get this!

ReplyDeleteI love umbrella stands. This is absolutely adorable though. I totally need to do this ... and to think, I almost purchased a plain one on clearance at Michaels last week for $4, but then had no idea what I'd do with it. I'm going to have to go back now and see if it's there.
ReplyDeleteI have a fabulous one that I picked up at a thrift store last year for Halloween, somebody cut a scary mouth and eyes out and painted it orange. We put it outside and place brooms and axes in it for decorations :)
What a creative idea and looks super easy. This would make a great gift for some of my family!
